National Geographic Education Series: Storytelling Through Photography

Grades: 5 - 12+

National Geographic Education: The Explorer Classroom Storytelling Series

Explorer Tailyr Irvine is a Salish and Kootenai photographer from the Flathead Reservation in Montana. Join to learn how she focuses on amplifying the voices of indigenous communities and breaking down stereotypes about Native Americans through photography.

In each event, host and Young Explorer Andrea Villarreal Rodríguez will connect a National Geographic Explorer with your students for a 45-minute live, virtual class, filled with interactive moments and a Q&A session. Your learners will hear behind-the-scenes stories from the field and have their questions answered in real time! Offline, following each event, use our Educator Mission Guide to guide your students to develop their own compelling stories about people who shape their communities. The program is created for learners in grades 3-8 (ages 8-14) and aligns strongly with English Language Arts and Social Studies standards. Students will practice careful listening, developing claims from evidence, and creating well-organized stories.
